Why pay hundreds of dollars for those fancy composting toilets when you could build your own for under $20.
Super compact, super simple. No moving parts.
Transportable, compact, clean
Cheap, transportable, sanitary.
Clean, disposable, no chemicals
A 1anda2 DIY compost toilet kit is based around a super simple device, the separator, that allows you to build your own compost toilet (with true liquid/solid separation) out of items you can buy at any hardware store for under $20. (See "All You Really Need To Build a DIY Compost toilet", above.)
NOTE: There is a distinction between "composting toilets" and "compost toilets". We help you build the latter. No composting actually occurs in the bag, but it can be saved for later composting, if desired. These are just the beginning steps in a long process. In a true composting toilet, what comes out is compost that can be used as such. We hope that will eventually be your goal.
What you'll find, though, is that it works really well and has many advantages that beat the much more expensive, high-tech compost toilets. The biggest advantage is that you never have to touch anything that the poop or pee touches. Everything is contained inside a garbage bag and once you throw that away, the bucket and separator is as clean as before you used it.
You can empty as often as you like, but we recommend going as long as you can between empties to minimize the impact on the environment. We are very conscious of the fact that it uses plastic bags. Please be mindful of plastic waste.
IMPORTANT: Always use standard sanitary practices (wash your dang hands!) and know the laws and restrictions of disposing of human waste wherever you are. Dispose of properly!
